The last movement is one of the most profound, beautiful pieces of music ever composed. I don't know why I cry when I hear it. I've heard Sibelius Symphony #5 twice at Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

I had the privilege to listen to the Oslo Philharmonics playing this Symphony in Vienna two days ago. Now, after so many years the performers were no longer the same, but their enthusiasm was certainly still there. My son and I had tears in our eyes.

A very fine video of the Sibelius Sym. #5. At the time, 1915, considered one of the great symphonies of the 20th century. The final movement a profound telling of the composers mind at that time. A one of a kind for musicians as well as the listener. Very well recorded for 2008. Saraste his usual laid back conductor. Oslo Philharmonic looking like they love every note. Great stuff!

A tremendous performance. I am looking forward to this orchestra visiting Manchester this year. Great horn section, woodwind and rich shimmering strings in this piece, beautifully conducted.

Outstanding. It rivals, for me, Paavo Berglund. I like the way he brings out the dance elements in the piece and also underscores the motivic elements when they arise out of the texture.
