These are rivets inserts for metal. It's not riveted as it should (sandwich a flat an thin piece of material). We can see it only compress a small amount of wood too close to the exit. Try this with pine or end grain.

Thats such a brilliant idea for those that need to drill a perfectly straight hole but don't have a drill press this will work a few times till the hole gets warped but then just make another one.... "poor mans drill press" LOL even named it for you & ima use your idea here till I can afford me a drill press, hats off to ya brother.

Nice, even if it is to just train your brain through repetition to drill straight. We all are a little off when it comes out the other side. Nice work, the hardwood will make it last awhile.

That is super clever. You could easily make a bunch of these and when you need something perfect (where a drill press can’t go for the dummies on here) you have quick jigs

Of course you know there are very good reasons why drill guides aren't normally made of wood!

it will only be as normal to the surface as the drill press AND circular saw cut.
Which is not necessarily perfect.
Also, you can buy a drill guide with all different sizes and other features, made to much better specs, for 10€ / 10$
