Great to hear your opinion on this book, I don't think I've seen a review of it from a male perspective as of yet.
This is on my list to be read this month, will be interested to see how I feel about the different perspectives that you have highlighted here.

Hey! I found your review through the book club, and I'm so glad to see you've joined and read this book. I agree that there is a big difference between the work of academic feminists and the more personal work of everyday feminists. I enjoyed reading the variety of viewpoints and experiences presented in this book. My favorite essay was "I Call Myself a Feminist With My Elbows" because I loved how she focused on the physical nature of making one's body seen and noticed -- that really resonated with me. I also love the humor in that piece. There were a few I didn't love, and definitely a few that made me angry at humanity (such horrible injustices), but I'm so glad this was the first pick for the book club.

Heard about this book! I'm part of the Feminist Orchestra group as well. If I have some time left I'll pick up I Call Myself a Feminist. It's very interesting to hear a guy's perspective on a book as such. It's a topic that has always intrigues me alongside inequality on the side of men (such as with child support and abuse)

Great video, JT! I think you pretty much nailed what this book is. There are definitely some good thoughts in the book, but overall reads as a kind of "beginner's guide" to feminism (which is totes cool, but not necessarily for established feminist peeps!). It's always interesting to hear thoughts on feminism from dudes, too - I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Feminist Orchestra vids :)

I have a similar experience: I studied political science, so I've read some of the theoretical works that gave me a bit of a foundation. Since that was all for political science I simply put feminism into the "political" category, instead of thinking about its relevance in everyday life. Now I'm really excited reading more!
