Moon Raider: Nintendo Switch Game Review (also on Steam)

Moon Raider plays of the basis of GH Wells' "The First Men in the Moon" in format and even character design but adds a bit of it's own spice in the romance of the scientist and the queen of the moon. Turns out, moon queens don't fair too well on Earth, and it is up to their daughter to go back to the moon and bring back "gem energy"! In this Mega-Metroid Clone, there is a ton to love, but polish could make it from a good game to a great game, for any existing fans of the unique blend of genres. Totally worth the sale price, but do be ready for a few minor bugs that may effect the smoothness of gameplay.

Picked this up for 2 or 3 bucks during a sale. Does need some polish, and the jumps can be a bit jank, but TRUE gamers can use this to their advantage, and there are some ways to exploit your special moves. Great to see someone mention positives for this game.

It's an alright little platformer. Could use some work here and there (such as the herky jerk camera movements when you make a jump), but it's okay for what it is. I can actually see quite a bit of potential with what's already present, whether it's a straight stage-to-stage platformer, or a Metroidvania.

The glowing dash thing also restores some health when you kill an enemy. I was low on health in an area there were a number of things that could hurt me. It was difficult until I realized that.

The spikes may not be instant kill, but the certain laser walls are. There's one section where I was standing on a conveyor belt with those lasers on both sides, and I shot a lightbulb that released a barrier. It shows this by locking your controls and panning the view towards whatever's being affected. However, everything is still moving while this is happening. So I ended up coming in contact with the laser and dying, and there was nothing I could do about it.
What sucks is that, from I've experienced so far, you get sent back to the moment you entered a room when you die. Not too bad, but anything you collected before has to be collected again. Not too big on that. I don't mind getting sent very far back so long as I can keep the stuff I get and get through quicker.

This one's got such a retro feel. At one point, I realized that I wasn't listening to you anymore, I was focusing too much on the game footage, so I had to rewind. €7 still is a bit too much for the length you've mentioned (and I've got too many games in the pipe), but I'll be sure to look out for another sale. You've mentioned a few problems with the controls ; would they be something that could be solved with the Switch remapping option, or would there still be issues due to the programming ?

You're very kind with your words when you criticize the weak aspects of the game, and I appreciate that, me on the other hand would shred it to pieces, long story short this is not a 10 dollar game and it's not a 6 dollar game either, the content of this game is 3 bucks at best and I'm being generous, hope you reach 25k by the end of the year!

Just bought this myself. As a big Megaman fan (check my username lol), I was super excited for it and your review actually pumped me up even more!

As far as the issue with the music and buttons, at least those are easy fixes since the options let’s you change the level of music vs sound effects and you can remap your buttons at the system level on the switch itself, so I don’t think those are too big of deal breakers!
