I've voted by mail in overseas absentee a few times, and the only primary concern I have is that my votes are basically counted last, so if there is no mathematical way my candidate could win they simply announce the winner by saying "Even if everyone else votes for the other person, it's not enough." I get the logic, but still seems like my vote was wasted. I'm fine with the concept of vote by mail, every time I have received my ballot it's been for the party I'm registered under, and there is an online system that tracks my ballot so I can make sure it was counted at least in my state.

I have heard from friends who haven't voted in a while and they remember registering for X party, only to get Y parties ballot. So they have to go back to the DMV or contact the voting office to get it fixed, only to find out they somehow got registered for party Y when they know they signed up for party X.

I have overall faith in the postal system, and there are flaws on both sides, and if there was a secure online way to vote I would vote every single time. I hear from my friends in Australia if they don't vote they get fined, that would be an interesting system, but then again is counter to the idea of personal freedom, the right to not vote.

So why wouldn’t you just make it so people go online put in their SSN DLN and virtual signature and vote that way?

This isn’t me being a smartA it’s a genuine question I’m sure there must be a reason we don’t do that
