In Defense of Yang Xiao Long

As an older sibling, it's honestly weird to see people demand so much closeness and support between siblings all the time, especially when it comes to the selfless devotion of the older sibling. Some siblings just don't work like that, in fact most don't. Sure, there will be an overly protective moment or two occasoinally, but as an older sibling it would never occur to me to shield my younger sibling from everything and offer constant support. They have to gain experience and deal with their own problems and constantly protecting them would leave them unable to deal with challenges in the future. Not to mention that I have my own life and simply don't have the energy for that. If they need help, they can ask and I would probably die for them, but no way in hell am I gonna make their protection my life's meaning.
Ruby's and Yang's relationship always felt very natural to me, even though their interactions have been pretty limited lately and the writing in the finale of season 8 specifically didn't do them any favors. But their relationship as a whole is fine.

Wow, well said. Never really put too much thought into the respect dynamic between Ruby and Yang. Makes sense now that she sees her as more of an equal for there to be more disagreements between them. I like that. Great video as always :D

One year… ONE YEAR LATER… and I’m still standing by my opinion on that matter. I swear, I’ve seen lots of people (left, right, and sometimes center) that just wanna come up with different excuses to bash on Yang more then the other members of Team RWBY. Hell, I’ve seen this excuse at Episode 1 of Volume 9;

“YaNg’S a BaD sIsTeR cAuSe ShE nEvEr GaVe RuBy A hUg WhEn ThEy ReUnItEd”

Well Mr. BOBBY (can I call you Bobby?… whom I kiddin’, of course I can cause I don’t care about ya) have you’ve ever had a sibling relationship?

Given what Volume 9 brings, Yang f*cked up (as did Weiss and Blake, but Yang raised Ruby), and she knows it. They need to have a chat in V10 about what happened.

Ruby was in a terrible headspace, but no one made time for her, no one listened to her, no one seemed to care after Chapter 2. Ruby opened up about how she was drawn to Penny's disguised sword, but Weiss was having a fit about the rain, and no one prompted Ruby to continue. Ruby is stalled by the Cat's remark about Salem, but oh no we lost the cat. Not 1 of the girls thought to go with Ruby at the market when they all knew something was on her mind. When Jaune gets involved, his condition seems to be what's most important because it wasn't subtle. And when the dam breaks after Ruby's near lethal (due to Jabberclone) panic attack, ALL THREE GO TO JAUNE. WB on Jaune and Yang on Ruby would've done so much with so little, but nope. It just so happened to be Ruby's breaking point. She snaps at them and Jaune snaps back, Ruby runs away. Right into Neo, who tortures the poor girl physically and emotionally until she hits the point where she can't take it anymore. Yang arrives in time to see Ruby seemingly off herself in hopes of becoming something else. I'm mad at WBY (Yang especially), I'm mad at the characters, not the writers behind them. Good writing, it fits their flaws, still frustrating as hell. Yang raised Ruby, could see that something was seriously bothering her, but never took the time when she had it to do anything significant. I give them a pass until after the auction. After that moment, the ulogy for Penny, WBY deserved getting snapped on.

One of the problems this show has is that it keeps introducing new characters and then doing practically nothing with them, or giving them like one moment to be relevant and then relegating to the back. They brought back Penny only to kill her again. This new girl in the v9 intro probably won't get any better treatment. I have to wonder why I should be scared of Salem's faction as a whole. Salem is terrifying, Cinder ping-pongs between being a threat and being an idiot, Tyrian is just the 'crazy' henchman. Hazel's sacrifice was okay, kinda wish they played into that Gretchen thing more. Watts, I have to facepalm at, he was dumb enough to fall for Cinder's 'manipulation' I get that Watts is a hypocrite and every one of his critiques of her could apply to him, especially in regards to how he reacted to Ironwood 'firing' him, but still. Mercury can't really do any lasting damage, he lacks the smarts that Watts had, he's not as strong as Hazel was, he lacks the magical power that Cinder has, and he isn't as manipulative as Cinder, and no Semblance. Adam was just so poorly handled, his treatment was like running through a minefield and somehow triggering every one. Emerald is 'redeemed' for now, I don't know how to feel about that I think she could've been redeemed earlier, whereas now it feels like she's been an accomplice to so much, and now she's not a fan of Salem thanks to Hazel's sacrifice. And Neo is wherever team RWBY is. Maybe they could get more mafia connections like Miss Malachite and her daughters, maybe Roman's mob.
