Can the 3-tube, 6-gain stage distortion Effectrode Tube Drive box be used as boost?
It absolutely can!
Swapping the stock 12AX7 tubes for some lower gain ones such 12AU7s or 12AY7s can bring this great pedal from heavily distorted to a more clean-ish boost/overdrive territory, while the tone controls shape and refine the all over the place tone of a cranked non master volume amp, such as the Tweed Deluxe.
Recorded with an SE ribbon mic 2" away from the amp, into an Audient iD14 audio interface. Some 50Hz cut off and bit of reverb, in Cubase.
