Official opening of the new Dawlish sea wall

The new section of the Dawlish sea wall was officially opened today by Minister of State, Chris Heaton-Harris. The plaque was unveiled during the ceremony that includes a photo taken by Dawlish Beach Cams photographer, Beach Cams Man.

Introduction by Mike Gallop, Route Director for Network Rail, followed by Matthew Golton, Interim Managing Director for Great Western Railway and finally Chris Heaton-Harris, Minister of State.

We were also joined by local MP Anne Marie Morris MP and Cllr Andrea Davis for the Peninsula Railway Task Force.

well done everyone, I love to holiday there with my family each year .The people of Dawlish are wonderful and the scenery in my opinion is some of the best in our great nation.Its so unique and just a pleasure to visit.

I've seen structures similar to that hideous wall in Normandy, with a bit more effort they could have made it completely hideous.

This is wonderful. It is also a good idea that the project should be extended through Dawlish Station. My worry, however, concerns the line between the Dawlish tunnels and Teignmouth, where the cliff is in danger of collapsing onto the railway. When is the work on this going to be done? Are we going to wait for trains to be buried under rubble and lives lost until something is done?

I dare say that a few Hoteliers and Licensed Victuallers are cursing this Pandemic, a few invited gusts only and no one staying overnight, with no big party. Hopefully all can have a big one when we are back to some sort of normality.
