I remember a discussion on how may beatings can be performed in order to return the wife to "obedience". A sheikh answered that up to 10 separate beatings can be applied, and if the wife is still "disobedient" then just divorce her (3 x talaq) and get another wife. Problem solved!

Men are supporters of wives because God gave some of them an advantage over others and because they spent of their wealth.
