This is why animation exists, to bring out all the vibrant colors and amazing technique and styles that real life can’t.

This looks like a really fun movie. If this was live action, it would be a boring romantic comedy, but because it's animation it can be as visually insane, beautiful and bizarre as possible.

This movie gave me the BEST night of my life, and I didn't even live it! This is what it means to be a young adult, and to find joy and meaning in the wildness of life! Oh my GOD! I just watched the movie, and I had a truly incredible experience. I'm literally so happy I watched this.

Last time I trusted an animation like this I was left in tears and everyone in the show ended up dead. (Literally everyone died)

Watched it at Crunchyroll Expo tonight and the audience, including myself, was all over our seats with laughter. It is a fantastically animated movie with easy to interpret but hardly concrete messages as well as strong but lucid symbolism. The casts are wonderful and very enjoyable. A movie that seems much longer than it is. Dense and light. It hold tremendous weight in looks but feels like clouds when touched.

Did anyone else hear the pokeball sound at 1:05? 😂

I can't believe the same guy who created Devilman Crybaby made this. The contrast is like night and day. It's like when Takashi Miike made a children's film, or like Eli Roth directing a children's film.

I've seen this movie; it's a real adventure, feels way longer than it is (in a good way) - ultimate form of entertainment, it always feels interesting but never overwhelming, great movie to watch while having a few drinks yourself. If you're a fan of The Tatami Galaxy there's a ton of references and characters that appear from it, but it is not necessary to have watched it to enjoy this movie (Though I highly recommend seeing it just because it's a truly unique and fascinating anime, the ending is oscar worthy, and it's only 11 episodes.)
If you're already really familiar with Masaaki Yuasa's directing works, I personally wouldn't say it's as profound in message as "Mind Game" (opinion) but the animation is still absolutely gorgeous and hanging around for the entire adventure will truly be an unforgettable experience in your life.

In general, if you're sick to death of anime tropes, Yuasa's works are a godscend. He makes media your non-otaku family and friends will enjoy too, you know? As long as they can tolerate subtitles of course. (Tatami Galaxy's subs are fast btw!)
Devilman Crybaby is definitely only for 18+ though. Lu Over The Wall is an amazing kid's movie my Totoro obsessed mom said she actually liked more than Totoro somehow (opinion). Anyone who tells you his best work is Ping Pong is a jackass - It's his least visually interesting work and unless you care about ping pong as a sport you'll be too bored to enjoy the psychological aspects of it. OPINION.

So why is a movie about drinking alcohol and basically going on an epic bar crawl classified as a GKIDS movie?

Edit: So GKIDS doesn't just release kids movies? Well, that name isn't confusing at all.
