This is a 13 mile hike from Whitewater Preserve to the Mission Creek Stone House. The gain is 1600' feet.
We'll start from the "Arizona Crossing" ~.5 mile from the entrance to Whitewater Preserve. This will be an out and back hike.
Whitewater Preserve is 2,851 acres surrounded by the Bureau of Land Management’s San Gorgonio Wilderness and includes the year-round Whitewater River. Rich riparian habitat hosts the endangered southwestern willow flycatcher and least Bell’s vireo, and provides opportunity to see migrating summer tanagers and vermilion flycatchers. The canyon has a robust population of bighorn sheep, deer and bear, and is an important wildlife corridor between the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains.

This is beautiful area this time of year. Water flows year round in the Whitewater River. Maybe you will be blessed with a sighting of the BigHorn Sheep herd.

We stopped at the preserve for a picnic in March and saw probably 100 big horn sheep working their way down the hillside towards the water.
