Red Komodo X Price SLASHED! Your time is NOW!

Red slashing the price of the Komodo and Komodo X is a VERY interesting move but a pretty significant one. This makes the Red system far cheaper to get into and maybe a really good starting point for people wanting to test the waters into a high end cinema camera.
The question is, what is Nikon cooking up? Does this mean we will get a new Z9 II or something? A new Komodo style camera?

I have a B&H educational account and the price of the KOMODO-X 6K is $6, 295.50 and KOMODO 6K $4, 495.50 so if you go to school like college you can get it for even less.

Or two PYXIS’ and a DJI Focus Pro 😳

KX is superior in image and all but man that BMD stuff is nutty

With the new Pyxis control monitor coming out November 20th, I'm so glad I bought into the Pyxis ecosystem.

I’m pretty suresure it’s because of the C400 announcement. They’ve matched the price and now you have to choose between Red Raw 6k 16-bit Super 35 and 6k Full Frame 12-bit Canon Raw. I’m invested in RF glass so to me this became a hard decision. C400 was a no brainer last week.

Your time is NOT now because the price will stay like this or continue to go down like the DSMC2 montro from 100K to 50K TO 29K.. we buy when we need it or when we are in a position to make this camera profitable.. no rush

Yea i bought an alexa mini but not using it as much as I wanted to. Feels like its better to rent one when the job entails

Crazy discounts! Being a C70 owner since it's out it's very tempting to try it out. Anybody here use it with the DJI lidar as a solo filmmaker? Wondering how you guys deal with the focus and ND filters?

i wonder... would there be a Komodo fullframe 6k coming? to fill in the gap between KX and Raptor V...

Probably they want to release a new camera in the price range 10-12k$ something like 6k FF version of the Komodo.

I am nervous about jumping into the KX until Nikon baselines the next lineup. That KX is really dope, though! I think they are just clearing out the inventory of the EF and PL mount type until they migrate over to the Z format.

Great time to be in the red eco system, I'm pleased I'll be able to upgrade from my OG 6k to the X, quicker, for less money in the used market.

Uk Komodo X £6, 999

OG Komodo £4, 999

I'm a 1st AC that's worked with Reds since the RED One, and through the drama of Red suing Nikon and losing (and then getting bought by them LOL!) and my assumption based on trends, news, drama, price changes, etc since following closely since 2009 is that this is Nikon's move to get Red selling more and eventually being profitable again. Nikon bought Red for $85M, which is suspiciously low for such a big company. I think that they were internally hemorrhaging as a company and Nikon is bringing them back to life from a profit point of view. I have many problems with Red, but the entire DSMC3 line has been a significant improvement, outside the 12G-SDI frying issues with no redundancy. I hope Nikon fixes this issue, but this development of the price drops is an interesting turn of events

I’d assume some retailers will try to get rid of their inventory before adjusting the prices. Imagine you bought a cam for 10k put it in your inventory to sell and now MSRP is nearly half

can you make i video about your storage system? I am really struggling to have enough space and wonder what the best options for filmmakers are

RED joining Nikon family created significant volume efficiencies with the KOMODO line - this is what RED told my workplace.

I think we'll see cheaper prices for RED going forward. This could be just the start. Nikon is a very large company. RED's purchase price was small, and I'm guessing they had a lot of internal cost/debt issues. Nikon likely sees the opportunity to begin aggressively expanding the market share of RED for their own benefit, company wide, and can afford internally for quite a while to run RED (and sell a lot of cameras) at a loss due to possible future benefits elsewhere, like RED moving to Z-Mount and the potential lift in sales/interest in their lenses, increase in adapters/licensing, R3D ending up in other cameras, etc. It's always very interesting when a company can afford to operate parts of it's business at a loss to gobble up market share and aggressively improve things (Amazon being a good example). If Nikon also brings their ecosystem/supply chain into the mix, which of course they will, then they can figure out how to make the same camera cheaper and improve profit margins per camera, or simply ease the pain on consumers with a cheaper and more accessible price, while maintaining an acceptable margin ... and again ... continuing to weigh in the company wide influence. RED and it's company results no longer live in a vacuum. This could just be a stock sale while they prep for new things, but I think RED's balance sheet (apparent by it's reported sale price to Nikon) was not great, which means the status quo isn't likely to continue from a manufacturing cost *and* price standpoint. I guess we'll see. Lots of amazing cameras available now and they don't cost as much as a car. The consumer wins.
