Epic work! One little tip (its not often I can give you a tip!!), the sign in Iceland to ‘the other town’ was actually pointing to Myvatn, which is the main/famous lake in North-East Iceland. Known (in my mind anyway) for the fact that it has a lot of biting blackflies lol

Very impressive! For some reason, I'm terrible at pinpointing in Iceland, and I think it might be partly due to what you mentioned about the same road looping around to meet twice. So thank you for that info! I had never realized that.
