Fished flies with a bobber since I was 8 for bluegills. Got my 1st fly rod in my 20’s and couldn’t wait to get some trout. Upper Baptism River in northern MN and I landed a …… smelt 😂I was so excited to have caught a river fish! Nearly 60 now and I’ve taken trout in six different states. Get out there!

I have been an urban fly fisher for many years. I love the small streams and drainages in places like downtown Dallas, fort worth. I currently live in Little Rock Ar and have an abundances of small streams. they are great places to try out new flies and keep in practice. These streams all have the same characteristics of mountain streams out west. I keep a rod and my fly pack in the car. its a great way to spend a lunch time.

Caught my first carp in a smallish "trout" stream a few years ago. I was stripping a coachman streamer because I thought that the flashes I was seeing were browns intercepting minnows. Almost immediately after my first cast and a few strips the carp nailed it. Thought I had the biggest brown of my life until the carp moved upstream a few yards and sulked on the bottom. Five pounder!

I’m from south Fl the urban fishing capital! This is how we grew up! If you want to really add to your species list I highly recommend south Fl! You don’t need a guide! Pretty much every canal lake pond etc holds Peacocks chiclids snake heads Oscar’s etc etc etc! Hit the local tackle shop and ask questions! Plenty of public access and they will be able to point you in the right direction! 😎🤙 a lot cheaper than a trip to South America lol and many of the same species! Good luck! 🍀

People are always shocked when I tell them how I fly fish at the boat harbors on Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago, usually Burnham Harbor just outside of Soldier Field and the Shedd Aquarium. I've caught both my best smallmouth and pike out of that harbor, as well as tons of bluegill. And a lot of folks fish for trout and coho salmon there too.

Remember, common carp arent invasive. Ive seen too many people kill them because of the misconception.
