Small small detail but I would highly suggest exporting in millimeters since it is the standard for 3D printers, slicing software (what cuts it into layers), and most 3D printing services. I learned that the hard way!

I had no idea that the follow me tool did this. I've been using sketchup for a lot of designing, but it's been all self taught through trial and error. This is game changing for me. Thanks for this video.

Thanks for your help! The skeg on my kayak broke and I'm gonna try to print a new one. This video was super helpful and very clearly explained everything I needed to know. It might nice in a future video to add a reference to the different solid extensions that can assist you in making a complex component solid.

You make sketchup look easy man, I have trouble getting curves smooth and landscaping hills and that sort of thing.

I'm doing something entirely different, but this video helped me figure out why my stuff isn't turning into a "solid component." Finally, Shapways is playing nice with my models.

Thanks.... for, unrelated reasons. ;)

For me one of the biggest limitations of Tinkercad is that there are only 4 fonts available. I am a heavy duty user of font based design to label designs in all kinds of ways. So I began looking for alternatives that are free and relatively easy but powerful. I ran across Sketchup and this is the second YouTube video I have watched. The example showed the use fonts and how one can choose from an enormous array of fonts. This answered my question. Now I have to learn how to use predefined shapes if possible.

one thing you should add- not only that it's cheaper, but it's faster if it's hollow. Nice vid ! cheers

Excellent demonstration. I have a model of Locomotive that I've been working on. I was planning on making a printable model. I had done some resurch, but didn't really understand how to start. So I working from a finished model and making it printable. So far I've successfully changed several of the parts successfully. Thanks again for a great tutorial

So do you SketchUP School guys think that this 3D printing stuff is going to blow up as much as I do? Physical architectural models are going to be commonplace again, it's pretty cool.

Wayyy tooo smooth...  without showing us how you healed the bottom surface, rotated the profile, loaded a solid entity, and printing locally, how are we supposed to follow along and find ways to troubleshoot?

Also, how was the fluidity of using that 3D mouse? (you never stated anything about it until stating that you were testing it).

I am working on a product that will be used to help fight the transfer of viruses to others, ...we are modeling in sketchup and sending to my makerbot 5th gen for prototyping. Seem to keep having issues of objects not being on a given plane, ...i am also mostly used to Autodesk Inventor. Thanks for the video it helped a lot!

Always appreciate your tutorials ~!  And a quick question,
When I download buildings off 3d warehouse, sometimes the ground is also attached with the building as a group.  How do I remove it to have the building only?

Great tutorial.  I have a design that includes a hollow torus "donut" shape that Im trying to make printable.  Is there an easy way in SU to create the needed 'escape hole'?
Thanks

is the device to the left of your keyboard a peripheral? some sort zoom/pan controller? Several others mentioned they would like to see your hands, I agree.

I started at Episode 28 lol... but I'm still finding this helpful. I am at the point where you pasted in place. I was able to get it to paste in place, however, it was not something I could push/pull. Is there something I should have done to make it pushable? I can see the paste in place rectangle, just can't do anything with it...
