It's sad how many on here are more concerned about her looks than her scientific portfolio.

The plural of "supernova" is "supernovae", NOT "supernovi". It's Latin first and not second declension.

If the big bounce is true (which I think it is), that means this could've been let's say the billionth time its happened... This means that the history of the universe may not just be 13.8billion years old but possibly trillions or even more! And that makes me think... Does that mean that in other previous and future universes contain an exact replica of everything e.g. Earth or even me?! Or completely different universes?! How weird would it be if this has already happened before, billions of times? Like that could explain de ja vu, we are just remembering our previous lives... This could also link to the theory of 4 dimensions and multiple universes but instead of existing simultaneously, they happen lineally (this would only be right is the universes weren't the same). I am so high right now....

The big bounce sounds like something out of the Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy.

The oval shape is due to how the map is being displayed. The map is that of the entire view we have all AROUND us. Imagine it like taking a globe and cutting it open and stretching it out to show all sides at once on a flat surface.

I like that answer :))
In my conversations with source I always know when I ask something God say Yes or say No. With yes, I have chilly on my legs and by no I fart LOL

Who's to say that the "martians" are visible to the human eye? We've only grasped the concept that we can see all other beings because it's what we're used too. But there's a lot of stuff on earth that we can't see that  some animals CAN!
For all we know; the martians could be undetectable gaseous hives that form one being or whatever...
We are used to having legs so it's what we know and have gotten used to but snakes don't and that's what THEY know and have gotten used to... We all have different characteristics and traits so the beings may have no need for eyes so they don't have them... They may have no need for arms so they don't have them. They have no NEED to be an organism like ourself, so they may no be.

If the universe is constantly expanding, what is it expanding into? It could not expand into nothing because as far as we know absolutely nothing is not possible

What is the universe expanding in to? What I'd outside of the universe?

When using the Earth as an analogy, only the outer most surface is being shown, from the inside, so it wouldn't be tricky at all.
I think I might have been a little confusing when I said "cutting it open and stretching it out to show all sides at once".
What I should have said was to imagine cutting it open (the globe) and turning it inside-out and stretching it out to show all of the inside.
And remember that in the analogy it's a hallow globe, not a solid Earth. Hope that helps a little more.

I watched TED's 4th dimension video before watching this. I need to give my brain a break. Mind Blow Overload! @_@

thinking about the big crunch theory: wouldn't the force of the dark energy come back to have a relevant impact once gravity has pulled the universe together a bit, increasing the more gravity pulls it together thus slowing down the implosion, what do you think?

But you forget one thing. The earth is displayed as an oval shape to show all of the planet on a flat surface. You can do that but only because we're interested in the outside of the earth. Now the universe, is seen as like we're inside it, so if you were to display the earth as seen from it's core, it would be kinda tricky.
I can't really explain what I mean, but I suppose you could turn the sphere inside out to actually make a map of the universe.

I reckon that the edge of the universe is just where matter ends. After the edge nothing is there but a complete Vacuum.

I love space science but it frustrates me so much that in our lifetime there will be more questions than answers.

We look out into areas we were never meant to see and we can really only take educated assumptions on what we're seeing.

BLOODY USELESS INTERNET.

I WANT THE ANSWERS TO EVERYTHING NOW!!

Have scientist ever entertained the idea that once the universe expands past its threshold that it can split into two, similar to a cell going through mitosis?
