How to Fix Split Ends - An Experiment

An attempt to take old cedar picket boards and repair split ends with Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue. There was apprehension if this could work, but the results were a surprise. Hope you can enjoy! #shorts

Next time try West system Two-Part Epoxy. They use in boatbuilding and can even repair and reinforce rotten wood. Great for exterior wood repairs and can be sanded and painted if your repair is paint-grade.

Having syringes and blunt needles is handy for stuff like this. The small needles will bend fairly easily without kinking if you need to really get in to a weird spot.

Also iv gotten good results from pumping the split open and closed after pouring a bit of an excess of glue, to get the glue to move further in, often this can avoid the need for syringes in the first place.

It would help to drill a small hole where the cracked ended, then glue the crack together, then fill the drilled hole.

Titebond is great and I have glued many split boards and I haven't had any issues yet

It would probably help in the long term if you drilled and placed a couple long thin wood screws across the crack. I do this while repairing boards salvaged from pallets.

Don't wipe your glue, as it just gets pushed into the grain. leave it where it is, and use a sharp chisel to remove it when it's dry.

That is a 16 Oz bottle of glue and I'd like to order a few at $4 each. I go to Lowes and it's closer to $10.
