Welcome Interstate Managers is one of the most underrated albums, as a whole, ever - even with all the critical acclaim it got for "Stacy's Mom". The problem is so many people didn't "get" the sound that Fountains of Wayne were going for. It's the curse of writing power pop on purpose - when it's done it sounds simple, sugary and poppy - but there is a real art behind FoW's music, it is the sharpest of the power pop you can find - and its Americana-themed/everyday man lyrics. What sounds like simple perfection to listeners is no accident and no quick dash of writing. It was all on purpose and deliberate - which makes it that much better. FoW should have been celebrated far more than they ever were.
