I would say it's more of a reversal of stages of life. Todays young people generally have 22 years of a standard of living and access to material goods and travel that boomers could never have dreamed of. Then, it reverses as from around 25+, its much more difficult to establish a successful life of work, home and family.
Of course, it somewhat evens out in old age as both groups end up or will end up pretty poor on average.
