I have some advice. You don’t have to buy it day 1. Not every product needs to be purchased on release date. So sit back and see how big the difference really is a few months down the line.

If you really need to think about getting a PS5 Pro - then most likely you don't need a PS5 Pro.

None of my friends have 4k OLED Tvs with HDR, VRR, and 120hz. It does make a difference. Some games more than others. No point of a Pro without one.

If the PS5 Pro cost more than the television you’re playing it on, you don’t need a PS5 Pro.

Too many people rely on others to make decisions for them these days, and it shows.

Here’s the decision tree that really matters: do you want it? Yes? Buy it, no? Don’t buy it.

Job done.

“If you aren’t bothered by the PS5 image quality, don’t get the Pro. If you are bothered by the image quality, then do consider a PS5 Pro.” Couldn’t have said it any better myself. It’s all just preference. Gaming is a luxury not a necessity after all.

No built in disc drive is the real clincher. I'm not a PC player. I prefer physical media. I'm not going to pay a premium for it as an add on. Put a disc drive in it and we can talk.

So many people looking at it from the standpoint of someone who already has a PS5. What if someone doesn't already have a PS5 and is intent on buying one... do they buy the base or the Pro? In such a case, I would think the Pro is a no-brainer.

ps5 pro makes ZERO sense for both existing ps5 owners (insignificant upgrade for double the price) and new people looking for to become ps5 owners - again, double price for marginal improvements at the wrong direction. I don't want better fidelity in performance mode. I want 120fps in performance mode. Its a product for people who have more disposable income than sense and buy the new iphone each year with cash.

I think the general mistake a lot of people are making is the idea that the PS5 Pro is "for them". I'm into single malt scotch. I've spent up to $600 dollars on individual bottles. People often can't understand how that could possibly be worth it. My level of investment makes it worth it to me. If you're less invested, it won't be worth it for you. Really that simple. If you can afford a PS5 Pro and appreciate the upgrades, it's worth it for you. If not, it isn't.

Its just better to go from pro console to pro console at this point.

Skipping the base unit is gonna pay off pretty well.

I know this has been echoed too many times but the fact that it does not come with a disc drive really makes me not want to get it. I have A LOT of discs that I still use and they are forcing me to buy one if I want to play my games. That's the number one issue that stops me from getting one.

Ended up getting one of these today. Pretty dope if you have the screen. Didn’t want to spend it. Actually took the ps5 slim and some stock controllers laying around to GameStop I got my pro for under 250 bucks after my trade on my pro account. Kept only my edge, one of the newest controllers, vertical stand, and 2TB m.2 from the slim. Pretty dope. I got a pc so I’m not new to the performance. But I guess it’s pretty dope having a 4TB machine on the tv in the living room that’s 120 vrr. I play a lot of first party games so I can see where it would benefit from my first day of playing. But I guess it’s pretty dope my wife too who has her account on there for her black ops 6. Def what next gen consoles should have been from the jump. I do like how quiet and compact the console is like the slim. Glad that carried over to the pro console.

the game library isnt that impressive this gen to do mid gen upgrade to a pro. Best thing is to get a base PS5 then shift to PS6 as soon as it drops.

I think it’s simple, does PC Gaming at all appeal to you? Are you someone who likes to come home sit down on the couch, turn on their 65inch OLED TV and just play games. Most things on console just work and are plug and play. No downloading drivers, no messing with windows HDR, no spending more time benchmarking and adjusting settings than playing games, do you wanna spend 4-5K or more on the whole gaming setup with a monitor mouse and keyboard and the actual gaming desktop itself. Also most ppl already have a nice TV so all you need is console so those are factors as well. Are you someone who needs to play Sony First Party Games while they are part of the hype and everyone is talking about them and how great they are. If you say yes to couch gaming and want the best that be offered to you then PS5 Pro is an easy buy. If it’s too steep of cost for you that’s fine PS5 plays games just fine as well.

Richard is being disingenuous here. The thing about pc is that you can fine tune your performance if you buy a more capable graphics cards. For the PS5 pro, developers have to retroactively patch their games to take advantage of the better hardware. It’s not like you can just pop in a new game and immediately notice the difference. There might be the odd game here and there that was bottlenecked by the GPU but by and large, how many companies are gonna patch their games to take advantage of th new hardware?
