Three U.S. teams were awarded $1.25 million at NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge Symposium and Awards Ceremony, a two-day event that took place at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4H Center in Columbus, Ohio on August 15-16, 2024.

Four U.S. and three international finalist teams delivered novel food production technologies that could provide long-duration human space exploration missions with safe, nutritious, and tasty food. The competitors’ technologies address NASA’s need for sustainable food systems for long-duration habitation in space, including future Artemis missions and eventual journeys to Mars.

The Deep Space Food Challenge is a NASA Centennial Challenge competition that was a joint coordinated effort between NASA and the Canadian Space Agency.
