I was confident the 2016 pole time of 1:29.493 would get beaten this year, but not in the end.
A pole time faster than the 2016 equivalent should definitely happen next year with even more evolution within stable technical regs.

Verstappen’s pole lap was absolutely incredible. The precision and control he displayed were truly impressive. Congratulations to him and his team on a well-deserved pole position! It was a close qualifying with Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin all putting up a great fight. And props to Alonso for his fantastic 5th place finish!
