the COFFIN checkmate!

The coffin chess puzzle

Can you see the check mate.
Pawns move this way.

This is one of my all time favorite puzzles, because black is forced to shut the lid on his own coffin, in a delicious flair of morbid irony.

The first move is a graceful royal step. Followed by this absurd looking rook sacrifice on h6, disposing of our greatest asset, the active rook.
But it's a gift that can't be refused, and when the pawn takes, the lid crashes down, and blacks king is inside. The end is fast, black has no time to breathe… check, move, check, move, check, now by the femme fatale. And checkmate.
Radio static.

it could've been the other way around as well because black's rook is too far away to help.

Couldn't you just move that same pawn first? It's protected by the rook and checks the king. The king moves into the corner so you move the rook to the last row to checkmate the king.

Edit: Never mind the king could just move down and behind your pawn.

Everybody saying move the pawn first is forgetting the king can move down after g6

Another way is: pawn to g6 and rook to d8

You can do it without rook sacrifice as well

There is a easier way. Pawn to g6 that's check and the pawn is protected by the rook so if king goes to h8 or g8 rook to d8 and that's checkmate

finally a youtube puzzle where you know whose turn it is to move and what direction the pawns go!

the best actual move is king to f7 then pawn to g6 then castle to d8 check mate with less moves

What about moving the G pawn forward one, protected by the rook, the king is forced to move back a space, then move the room to the back rank for checkmate? Seems a lot less complex than whatever maneuver you were doing, and it also gets checkmate in less turns. Seems like someone didn’t do their homework.

you can play g6 and then black plays Kg8/Kh8, then play Rd8 checkmate

If the opponent looked ahead he should have moved the pawn up and it wouldn’t have been mate

Well it didnt have to be this complicated
Pawn g6 check forces king to go to g8 or h8 and king cant capture since pawn is supported by the rook
After black king moves to g8 or h8 rook d4 is check mate
Only two moves if you look carefully

Or move g5 pawn to g6 forcing king to move up then slide d6 castle to d8 checkmate forced checkmate in two

u could get the pawn to move Straight and then get rook above and its a faster check mate
