This webinar will focus on reviewing mock exam questions for the Structural Systems exam. Prior to the review, we sent out an exam to all those that signed up, gave some time to take the mini-exam, and then went through each question one by one during the online / live session, reviewing the answers, strategies, and resources for how to answer them.
In this section, Mike Newman and Heather Heidenreich discuss a question from the Structural Systems Mock Exam that gives a situation in which you have a wood structure, and the engineer says that the horizontal shear stress capacity of the 2x12’s is lacking, but you don’t trust her, as she has been on Facebook during the entire conversation so you decide to check for yourself. It then asks if the highest shear stress allowable for Doug. Fir-Larch is 180psi, assuming adjustment factors of 1.0, then does this loading work? Mike and Heather will go over formulas, calculations, and resources needed to figure out the answer, then reveal the correct answer and why it is the correct answer.
