Wondering if Google PhotoScan is comparable to an actual scanner? I take a look in this video using a neat image from the USGS Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab.

I got the answer I was looking for. Thank you! However, I will continue to use Photo Scan for scanning old photos that have faded and taken some damage. It's also more practical when doing a whole photo album, because it's possible to get very reasonable quality without taking the photos out from behind the plastic. I would recommend, as you said, to use a proper scanner for professional work or for printing/viewing the originals at much larger sizes.

Thank you for this video!

Please do an update video.

I think Google has improved the light reflection removal algorithm. And cell phone cameras are getting better and better. However, Google has changed the app to add a watermark frame around the picture, but if uploaded to Google Photos the watermark goes away.

The use case I see for the photoscan (and the one it's advertised for) is archiving old photos such as those taken on film or those of which you don't have a digital version of, is the flatbed better? Yes but google photoscan is good enough

CUT TO THE CHASE: messed up ratio a little, real flatbed scanner will have better details and color exactly as expected. Didn't kill all reflections

Hi! Thanks for the information. I know I am a little late to the party. LOL. My question is this:
After I have completed the transfer of my old photos to my computer, should I delete them all off of the PhotoScan app before I begin to use the app again for a new project?

Tldw: Photoscan distorted the ratio, and had shitty resolution, it left reflection in there.

This guy went pretty easy on Google.

Does the flatbed scanner take up more storage than the app?

The Photoscanner has more glare, but the scanned image doesn't have the black tones correct

I wonder if the photoscan app would have worked better if you turned on the light option.

If your glossy photos scans come out with newton rings I guess GoogleScan is the only way to go. You never mentioned this kind of problem which is very popular among flatbed scanners.

So if I scanning photos from the 60's and 70's to current day... what is the easiest way to capture and sort... and is a professional scanner going to make a difference on these types of photos? They aren't the best resolution to begin with. So any other recommendations for app or scanner? Learning a lot from your videos. Thank you 😊
