Quoting a comment left on another reviewer's video about these pens:

"Based on a UK business and trademark search, Ellington Pens is owned by the same person who own(ed) Dryden Designs. Neither Ethan Ellington nor Michael Dryden actually exist. The person behind these two brands has other e-commerce websites with fake employee profiles and other unsavory business tactics. And that's just what I dug up in an hour's worth of internet search."

I have kept a journal pretty much most of my adult life (stared when I went to uni, in 1997), fell down the rabbit hole around a year ago with the help of your videos (it just never occurred to me one can have more than ONE pen before!), Alicia, and I am just amazed to find vlogs of people I will never get to meet, but deep down I know, I know we share so much. So keep making those videos! Greetings from Poland!

Thanks for the concise and informative review. Today was the first time I saw marketing for Ellington and I am curious to learn!

Seems like a solid pen, a good option for a daily writer. While I love my "fancy" pens, a reasonably priced writing instrument, that is robustly built, and a consistent and reliable writer, is always on my radar; might need to check out that Stealth model ...
Also, it always makes me happy when companies reach out to you; since it is very cool to see the impact of your work being recognized by the stationery brands. Even better, when the company appreciates the honesty of the reviewer (=
Thanks for the video.

Thank you for this review! It's very interesting to see pens that I haven't seen before.

I always look forward to your videos be it about pen, ink, typewriter or your journeys. Your videos are a window to a different world to me. And you have such a calming narrative voice. Your intonation resonates with calmness, wonder and joy. Thank you for the gift of your videos ❤Do you do audibles? It would be awesome to hear you read some of your favorite poetry sometime 😊

I got mine the other day, went all black, and I have also been really impressed so far, I did have a hard time getting it started initially, but once it got started it has been writing beautifully!

This is super sus ... Website doesn't appear to have been written by a native English speaker (in at least one spot, it refers to the 'nib' as a 'nip'), doesn't say which 'gold alloy' they're using but there's no hallmark and the price seems unreasonably low for anything that any reasonable person would recognise as gold, '.com' and American spellings (e.g., 'color') for an allegedly-British company, and no evidence that a mathematician called Ethan Ellington does or has ever existed.

In light of the shortage of color/trim combinations that appeal to me, the price, the lack of available finer nib sizes and the hubris in their advertising, I think this sits well below Hongdian in my list of desirable pens to add to my collection. The size and weight keep them somewhere on the list if they ever come up with an extra-fine nib for the Stealth model and a decent discount.

Generic blue/black cartridges sent with pens, in my experience, almost always have inferior ink.

I just received my Ellington Pen in the mail today. I love the way it writes! Do other standard cartriges work with Ellington Pens? I saw in the video the brown color that you were using and I would love to try brown and green inks. Are standard cartriges compatible?

A pen that writes out of the box is almost a revelation 😂

Good writing is what makes an essential pen. Materials do matter. Ellington reminds me of Italix or Wordsworth & Black, with which I have written, or, I guess, of Beiluner. I was underwhelmed by the materials. Seemed cheap. Paint wore off the plastic of my W & B Erudite in a year of occasional use. The person upon whom I gifted/foisted the W & B is pleased with how it writes. So, caveat emptor, sed gaudeat scripto.

Fountain pen reddit is absolutely roasting this pen company...

Thanks for the video. I just received my first Ellington Pen (Silver Sonata) and I completely agree with your takes:

1. Great quality. Nice balance in my hand.
2. The ink is awful. Very runny. I bought a fine nib, but with ink runs so much, the result looks like I’m using an extra large nib. Granted, my first writing experience is on somewhat glossy textbook pages, but I’m trying to take notes in the margins and can’t make out my own handwriting after it runs.
3. I’m also glad they included the ink exchanger. I’ll be using some Parker ink I have instead of this stuff.

After paying for the pen, their website took me to another screen where I could buy 24 more cartridges at a big discount. I jumped at it based on the price. Now, I want that money back.

I use the Kaweco ink cartridges in my pen.. I like them a lot better than the ones that came with my pen.

I’m really hoping people are going to see this brand for what it is: a $2 Chinese pen prettied up and given a backstory and sold for twenty times price. Cheap Chinese pens are fine, some can be great, but Christ that marketing video of theirs is embarrassing.

Thanks for yet another great fp review. Can these pens be purchased in the US?

I purchased the white/rose gold version right after watching your video and received it today and omg the quality is not the same as yours at all! The converter broke apart while inking it up and the pen scratched across the paper so bad it was audibly squeaking! 😅 In the process of getting a refund (their return policy page is also clearly copy and pasted from somewhere and not written by them bc it’s not applicable to pens at all lol)!
