The adjustment you described as setting the depth is actually for the side plate angle which should be 60 degrees for the chain you're sharpening. The depth is set using the red knob to the right of the wheel.

Glenn looks like a nice tool. I’ve never used a grinder on my chains. How did they cut after sharpening was there a noticeable improvement over filing. Thanks, Ben.

Those grinders are good for beginners. Soon you will be filing by hand. Keep the chain on the bar, faster for a light touch up, and more control in creating the "C" between the top plate and the gullet.
