Building ORCA - Episode 8: Connecting the forefoot to the stem - deep drilling

preview_player
Показать описание
Moving forward on ORCA we've almost completed assembling our center-line and this week we're making the final connection between the forefoot and the stem. This joint will be made in a new and improved way that will work to hold the pieces together while also not allowing for any twist. We are ultimately going to be using all bronze fastenings in ORCA because they hold up best and don't disturb the wood around them the way stainless and galvanized fastenings can but we are going to keep the keel mobile for the rabbiting process before then lifting it into place to start framing and planking.

Good afternoon Lou, I have been a fan of your clips for some years. I love watching your skill in building works of art. Because I am retired and very busy I have decided to build a 1'/1foot model of ORCA. I am using 4mm commercial ply laminated together for forming the centerline. will post a picture when I am a bit further. I wait for your next episode.

You sound just like the internal arguments I have with myself whenever I'm building something. "No need to rush, it's better to sneak up on the line"

Precision with a chainsaw & scrapper. Beyond Brilliant - Just incredible. Lou is a National Treasure that should be Knighted into the USA Hall of Fame. So inspiring.

I find it interesting watching woodworking channels that have nothing at all good to say about Ryobi tools, and then we get to watch a REAL craftsman work with them and turn out a joint that most of them couldn't even dream of making. Well done my friend!

Lou your tool control is on another level. I am not impressed easily having more than 50 years experience working with hand and power woodworking tools and I am learning things from you with every video, I am greatly impressed with your skillset. Loving every minute of it.

Lou. It’s taken 3 weeks to watch 2 videos. I know your a busy guy. But at this rate you won’t be eyeing the sheers for another 11 years. The only reason I say this is your the only guy worth watching. But I’ll be dead way before you lay a deck plank. And I was hopeing to see it launched. N b d. Your the man

The only guy on the internet whom we would watch make one single joint in one whole episode.

Thank you for your videos!

I am full of admiration for your skills. Of course, I watch a lot of videos from different parts of the world, but what you show on your channel is the most endearing to me. Especially because of the flat-bottomed boats. Thanks to you, I am getting closer to building a traditional wooden boat, used on the Vistula River - this is the largest river in Poland.

If only I could visit your studio!

Regards!

With all the tools and 'latest must-have woodworking gadgets' in the world, your hands and skill, and the odd 'simple tool', are all that's needed to create things (and joints) of beauty. The epitome of craftsmanship. Thanks for this video!!

I think the proper description of hand sawing the first part of that joint. Is you are approaching perfection.
