It is sad that it wouldn't be surprising if she did flub the debate. There have been crisis after crisis with multiple chances for Harris to take and answer the hard questions in front of the press corp. She could have dispelled doubts and practiced overcoming what is likely a weakness in being able to handle unscripted hardball questions for a prolonged period.

Before Biden's presidential debate, the bar for him was not to have a senior moment. He had a senior movie instead. For Harris, the bar is to not repeat the disastrous 2020 Democrat presidential primary debates where her performance was so bad that she got zero delegates. She wasn't chosen by Biden for VP because she was anywhere close to the next best Democrat presidential candidate after him.

Congressman Dean Phillips would have been a much better Democratic nominee for President than Kamala Harris. He had respect for Trump supporters and wasn't a progressive. Also, he won far more votes and delegates in the 2024 Democratic primary process than her. A Phillips and Trump debate would have been far more competitive.
