In a significant development, the Delhi High Court today dismissed a public interest litigation challenging the appointment of newly sworn in Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud with Rs. 1 lakh costs.
Justice DY Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9 that is on Wednesday. took over from former CJI UU Lalit who retired from office on November 8
A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad called it a "publicity interest litigation" while dismissing the petition.

Judiciary can't shut public mouth like this, no one is above the constitution and law. No one has right to declare something wrong without proper enquiry, petitioner just wanted to conduct a enquiry on the allegations made by him, there is nothing wrong in this. Court should have treated the CJI as an individual everyone is equal in eyes of law but HC crossed all limits and imposed fine on the petitioners. First of all a fine can be imposed by HC only when the concerned person file a defamation case against the petitioners but here HC behaved as a spokesperson of the CJI.

Not maintainable in the first place in delhi high court...delhi high court itself lies within the administrative control and supervision of the apex court....the division bench being subordinate to the CJI cannot even touch the matter at the first place....RPI to the lawyer who filed it
