I know Rick has been doing this along time and is a top pro, but just witnessing the way he picks up the notes and riffs and then plays them instantly blows my mind.

In an unusual move, they have thinned out the guitar in the mix, and made the bass and drums more prominent. The riff is basically “Hit the Lights” and “Metal Militia” re-visited.

I didn't know what to make of it at first, but after a couple of listens the adrenaline started to flow, and I was thrashing all around. Pretty soon, I was acting like a maniac...

It’s always amazing how musicians figure the songs out right away!

So fun to watch Rick pick up on the chords/notes/melodies so quickly.

Watching Rick be able to figure out a song and play along with it while listening to it for the very first time is fascinating.

The song has such a Motörhead vibe to it, intro is very energetic. Rick breaking it down just a minutes the song dropped is incredible

On Garage Inc., Metallica did a version of Diamond Head's _It's Electric._ When James is singing the "lux aeterna" part, it gives me the same vibes as their version of It's Electric.

As a band as old as Metallica, it’s harder and harder to release new material. It will always be compared to the peak of their career and at this point it doesn’t matter. I’m just happy they stay so inspired to write.

It’s so funny about the guitar tones because it sounds like they went full circle, back to their Kill Em All sound. I do wish the drums were a bit more natural sounding, at least to my ear.

If you played that with a shuffle feel, that'd be a Van Halen riff. Love it.

The outro really pays homage to Motorhead's "Overkill", which sounds and feels great to see Metallica go back to their roots. Great video also

The way Rick picks up a song so easily is so impressive, love the new Metallica song. I have to agree with Rick it is a little too perfect

Personally I think this is a very well crafted tribute to their old "mentors", like Judas Priest and Motorhead: it's easy to detect some similarities with songs like "Ace of spades" and "Rapid fire", but they were able to elaborate these former ingredients and mix them with their own style.. In addition to this I would like to underline the high quality of both mixing and production, the sound is astounding..

This has a great feel. It’s like a polished “Kill ‘em All” era song. My first thought was that it reminded me of “Hit The Lights”. I hope the rest of the album rocks like this.

I love that there does not seem to be any type of music you don't enjoy or at least appreciate, and you can share that appreciation with everyone.

I hope Lars doesn't find out that James put a new Metallica song on YouTube that people can download for free.

I love how accessible Metallicas music is. And their riffs are fun to play. They arent trying to outdo anyone. They are enjoying themselves and I love them for that

I got a huge "Garage Days" feel from this song, which I loved! specially the main riff and the solo, it looks like came straight from 1983. James sings "Lux AEterna" the same way as "It's Eletric"

I could listen to Rick reacting to my burial ceremony and still vibe on it.

this has so much updated motorhead DNA in it. Drums are Phil Taylor, lick is fast eddie. I'm listening to this at low volume as my girl is asleep and the chorus just sounds like, "mashed potatoooes!" somebody tell weird al he should indeed be making food based parody songs and this is his next hit.
