Hammock jungle aboard the boat from Iquitos to Pucallpa - Peru

You can only get to Iquitos (a town in the Amazon, north Peru) by plane or boat. I flew in from Lima and decided to take the boat to continue my journey south.
Because its dry season and the river (Rio Ucayali - which turns into the Rio Amazonas close to Iquitos) was very low, the boat trip ended up taking 6 days! (we went slow - so we wouldn't get stuck on the sandbanks)

It was most definitely a very unique and quite intense experience:
I was the only "gringa" (white/not peruvian) on the boat, and Peruvians tend to be VERY curious :-) Hence, I was making lots of interesting contacts, but also constantly dealing with many staring people and constant waterfalls of questions (about me, my country, my journey, white people in general - two people even started "consulting" me when they found out I graduated from Child Psychology - which makes you immediately a "doctora/professora" in the eyes of the people here).

We stopped at many little villages on the banks of the river; stood in line for considerable amounts of time to get our meals; saw grey river dolphins ("Bufeos"); were accompanied by many animals during the journey (turtles, (baby) parrots and parakeets, a little monkey (pet), chicken and ducks); experienced the boat getting full-fuller-overloaded (there are no limits to the amount of people boarding) and most of all tried to prevent ourselves from melting because of the extreme heat... Viva Peru!
