The Smithsonian Natural History Museum houses 147 million specimens — everything from pickled animals to priceless gems to dinosaur bones. But less than 1% of it's on display. The rest is hidden behind the scenes in what's called collections. But they're not just sitting in storage rooms collecting dust. The specimens are actively used for scientific research with real-world benefits, from preventing bird strikes to documenting invasive species. We went inside the collections to see how they acquire, maintain, and protect our Earth's treasures.

Hoarding issues, yeah 👍 got that covered! ( 147 million items! ) In the early 1970s, my mom worked across from the Smithsonian, school holidays she'd take us and we'd wonder around it for +8 hrs.! Crazy 🤣😧

Since my tax money is paying for the smithsonian and their research, I want to have valid university archeology departments to be able to study the artifacts. The giants that were exhumed from the mounds in Ohio. There are letter correspondence and shipping documents that show the remains were requested by the smithsonian and were sent. Were those remains studied?
