90 year old Signet Ring gets revitalized

This signet ring has been in Jordan’s family for over 90 years and the bottom part of the ring came to me barely hanging on by a thread. To prepare the ring for future generations I replaced the entire bottom half of the ring with a brand new gold shank. Watch as I go through the step-by-step process of adapting this new addition onto the original ring while still maintaining its distinguished and aged look.

I love that all crafters have a relevant scrap pile. Cardboard? Worbla? Gold? Electronics? Leather? Yarn? We're all of course different in how much we value our scraps, and at what point we allow it to just be waste, but it's kind of nice to see that we're all the same in that we keep a scrap pile. Even writers with a folder or shoebox full of bad ideas, cut sections, plot points that went nowhere.

And yes I used my thumb nail as the thumbnail. 😎

Another “golden oldie”.
Another classic honoring a memory of a long life of a loved one. Your gold smithing skills are captured in this step by step process, giving a sentimental ring a unique update. It’s all about understanding the possibilities and making the client happy. I think you succeeded!💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎

I had a jeweler put my father’s ring back together for me and he made it stronger. I still have it to this day and when I go and meet my maker and my family, it’ll go to my son.

my signet ring was so old and thin it snapped a while back
it's been passed down maybe 5 or more generations
have'nt heard back from the store in 2 weeks about how much it'll be to fix it so thanks for reminding me that i should call them tomorrow
also really great work!

It’s actually quite beautiful and poetic for some old “scrap” gold, that has its own history, to be added to another loved memory of history. The blending of two histories & now several metal smiths coming together 💛

Repairing or reconditioning a family heirloom is my favorite work as a jeweler. I'm deeply touched every time a family trusts me with something so precious. ❤ Wonderful work.

It might be a good idea to also make a mold of the ring while you are at it, in case of loss.

Every once in a while you'll come across my page and every time it's a video with "maintaining the history" of the Ring's scratches and wears. I'm glad you do your best to restore the ring without taking out its history😊

Jordan had the right idea keeping all the wear and tear! I think that's a very cool and sentimental thing to do.
