So interesting to hear the two recordings. So many thoughts of my friends run through my mind after listening... people who are surely having a most difficult time saying what needs to be said to the ones they love. Yes, two separate recordings from a man's perspective, from a woman's perspective...simply beautiful.

There is a version by Kate Taylor as well, also produced by Peter Asher.

Linda’s version is beautiful, but James Taylor’s version tears me in two, always has xxx

I loved early Ronstadt, but this should have been sung intimately like in her earlier Livingston Taylor penned version of In My Reply. Big voice with big production just loses the tenderness of a quiet goodbye to a lover.

This is not a duet; Linda is only singing backup .

Incredibly beautiful balladl but it should not be romantic s but fur all loved ones. That would make these songs more meaningful. I sing folk roots songs to my family and my pets. Ballads, folk, delta blues, appalachian and gospel, are all American History and culture.

That sure doesn't sound like Linda.

James's rendition, perfect, obviously. Linda, no, not on this one. I love James singing this with Joni, and Linda's rendition does not cut it for me.
