Well there are commercial products out there that will defiantly do this for you. Software management maybe a good place to start looking. I have used AppLocker to stop certain applications from running (Java, Adobe) but I don't that that's what you're looking for. Many of the packages you may find are expensive. I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending one because I haven't used it; however, you could also look up configuration management software.

Nice work...My boss was an IT guy for the US Air Force and said there is a was of tracking what programs are installed on different workstations in a domain. We have a server2008 r2 Enterprise w/2010 Exchange on it. How can I find this out? We have a small office with 12 people in it.

I am trying to install WSUS on a virtual Server 2008 system.
However, when attempting to add the role, I'm told that the installation failed, because an update couldn't be downloaded.
I've verified that the VM has internet access, and re-installed the Server 2008 OS, however the same issue happens when attempting to add the role.
Is there a direct link to download the latest version of WSUS for Server 2008?

So if I add this role to my server, and do it like this wil all client computers automatically know to get updates from the server, or will they still try to connect to MS?
I didn't see anything that indicated client computers will be made aware of these changes here.
I'm assuming I need to define something in a group policy object and roll that out to client computers?
