Here's a very simplified acoustic guitar arrangement for this classic one-hit wonder. Mad World was recorded by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews for the soundtrack to the movie Donnie Darko, and later became a UK Christmas number one single. The song was originally by Tears For Fears.

This is the very definition of an ideal beginners song. The only chords used are E minor, A major, G major and D major (with a capo on fret 1). The strumming pattern is extremely sparse and the whole song has a very relaxed tempo. This arrangement is designed to be very bare-bones and doesn't try to do anything fancy.
