This isn't the intention of the song in this context, but it always makes me think of an old friend. Incredibly depressed and pushed everyone away. Only to find out later that he was trying to isolate himself so that those he loved the most would hurt at least a little less when he was gone. I wish he would have screamed this song at the top of his lungs.
