A quick guide to the WTW4955HW washing machine

I just purchased this machine and the first thing I did was jerry-rig the lid so the machine would operate with the lid open in an effort to see what is actually going on in there. And to my dismay, there isn't a whole lot of washing going on! In fact, at any given time during the wash cycle about a 1/3 of the laundry is actually above the water line. Furthermore, the ‘agitator’ style on this machine is a joke! I was absolutely horrified to see precisely what some online videos are pointing out about the newer style agitators. The clothes on top never get drawn down into the wash water. I was horrified to see how the new style ‘agitator’ simply rocks back and forth verses traveling in one downward direction as that seen in old style machines. And, manually adding more water to the tub does absolutely nothing in terms of getting the clothes on top to actually get drawn down into the water! Designing these machines so the lid can never be opened during a wash cycle is the manufacturer’s way of getting us consumers to ‘drink the cool aid’. They want you to believe that once the lid is closed the magic begins. Let me tell you, there is no magic happening underneath that closed lid on this machine! This machine is an absolute joke!

how long should it take for the wash cycle. on here it says quick wash would take about 30 min. but the wash cycle on heavy bulky and normal is 10 minutes and then starts draining water. btw i just purchased this washer and I'm really want it to work for me. but even the water amount on deep fill doesn't fill to half way. any suggestions?

Hello can you give me some advice on the whirl pool model number WTW4955HW1? I recently moved in these apartments and the washer is literally new out the box. Although the Auto Sensing doesn't sense exactly. For example if I was to put a comforter in the washer it doesn't fill up all the way. Meaning only half of the comforter gets wet. I would actually have to get a pot or something to add extra water in the washer in order for the comforter to get entirely wet. Please help this is very annoying. Of course the washer is in the apartments name so I can't call a technician out.

Whirlpool should be forced to recall this machine on the grounds of false advertising, as this machine is mostly worthless in cleaning laundry.

JD Whitty you could not be more wrong in describing the agitator on this machine. I recently purchased this machine, only to realize it is a complete joke. This agitator is not a 2-way agitator as you claim. It is a solid mount agitator that simply cork screws up and down as the tub rocks back and forth. This action is absolutely worthless in drawing clothes down into the wash water. Furthermore, your statement claiming this agitator is “going to allow for a better cleaning action” is absolutely absurd. I would ask if you in fact have ever watched this machine in action. In doing so, you would quickly notice that the laundry on top of the load is never drawn down into the wash water. In fact, bedding blankets will never ever get circulated down into the wash water. And astonishingly enough, the blanket on top of the wash load will never ever be fully drawn below the water line. It is absolutely delusional to suggest that this style of agitator is superior to the old one-way drive of the auger style agitator that actually pulled down and circulated the laundry load through the wash water. You obviously have a very different view of what ‘washing laundry’ should look like. Washing laundry begins with the notion that all laundry is drawn into and circulated throughout the wash water. This machine does not even come close to being able to do that. To fully understand how worthless this machine is at cleaning laundry, I would ask viewers to fill a clear, tall glass with ice and then add water. Now grasp the outside of the cup and twist it back and forth clockwise and counterclockwise and watch what is happening to the ice inside. You will notice there is not a whole lot happening to the ice. It simply stays in one place as the glass spins around it. This is precisely how this washing machine operates. What a joke!

😭 WHY did whirlpool hang the agitator 😫 it is distressing. The washer drum (19kg) now seems really small when I compared it to current older moder (19kg) 😡 I don't feel like changing my older model washer for these new ones any more 😩

Does the light blue plastic stay on or does it get taken off the washer? Thank you

The description is incorrect about the agitator it is a one piece agitator attached to the wash plate, please get it correct. The dual action agitator works completely different from this ONE piece unit .

HE machines are suppose to save you from using more water. This washer cost us more to use in water than our old non HE. When we have it on auto sensing for the rinse, it rinses the clothes twice, which I don't want. Also I have notice when you have it on auto sensing for water level & rinse option, the rinse option fills up twice as must water as the wash cycle does. You would think they both would fill up with the same amount of water. Disappointed with this washer, because it uses more water than our old one. Don't waste your money on this junk machine unless you like paying high water bills.

Is there an end of wash signal on the top load washer

You reviewed this based on what you see on THE OUTSIDE, but have you actually tried it? It is a piece of shit! Yes, I thought "Cool! I get to do [so & so]", pretty much thinking on the outside like you. But once I got to actually trying it--it was garbage! You could about 9 inches of clothes in and will only get 2 inches of water, EVEN with the deep water wash option.
