Damn Orwell hit the nail in the head super early. What a journalist

Orwell was not the only one that thought that. Stalin did to. Yes, Stalin, though (ironically) he didn't phrase it so darkly. He said that it was likely several decades of peace with the west were ahead due to both having nuclear weapons but both being unwilling to use them (Stalin also said nuclear weapons couldn't be used without bringing about the end of the world- another irony, if we had known Stalin thought this way, probably wouldn't have been a cold war).

Interestingly I discovered in a Swedish lexicon book called "Bra böckers lexikon 1-25". It defined the cold war as a period of 1948-1963 starting with west Berlin airlift and ending with the cuban crisis towards the end of 1962. Ironically the book series was released during the cold war and the 1990's.

Orwell was one of the greatest thinkers and writers when he wasn’t drunk.

Fun fact; the first time WWI was called the “First World War” was _while it was still happening._ Someone called it very early.

It always comes back to Orwell, doesn't it?

The original use of "cold war" was the period after Britain and France declared war on Germany for invading Poland.
For months both lined up on the neither committed any hostile acts until Germany attacked the Maginot Line.

I know that Orwell is a controversial figure but you have to admit the man was a genius at political and social analysis

Because if we called it the "hot" war everybody would giggle

Still hilarious to me that 1984 was released before the GDR was even formed😂
Orwell is one of the best authors to ever exist, with 1984 truly being the foundation of my political views😅
