Quite straightforward and simple, which surprises me. Had always thought that animated sprites were the way to make vfx look good, but I guess just still images, with movement/distortion animated to the objects, are the way to go.
Lot's of new insight, and I think it translates well to other software. Will try implementing this in blender!

Much thanks!

Looking forward to the tutorial content, we really need more of those in the community. Really want to see how you make a lighting tutorial, I'm a big fan of your lighting especially how you render color. It gives that "realistic" feel compared to others where the coloring makes it obvious that it's a CG render, (which is perfectly fine I just prefer the latter). I know lighting isn't really that flashy compared to other parts of the animation process so it probably wouldn't be suggested as much as VFX or fight choreography but I'd argue that it really ads to the perceived quality of the work itself, setting the mood and adding immersion in the background while all the flashy stuff do their work in the foreground.
Really wanted to see a lighting tutorial that's a) made by someone that actually knows lighting (no offense Sharpwind), b) Shows more of the thought process or "philosophy" behind lighting, (where to place spot/point lights, when to enable/disable shadows, or what color values to use, etc.) instead of just showing a generalized list of cool tricks that you could do. c) Isn't made like 6 years ago.

Really big fan of your work, hope u consider this suggestion but NO PRESSURE :D
