Settling into a good local church where you feel like you can grow spiritually is the most practical matter, rather than choosing the perfect theological tradition. It seems to me an Anglo-Catholic hermit can fit in pretty much anywhere. Take care!

Dale,
I have always enjoyed your videos. I converted to Orthodoxy from Traditionalist Roman Catholicism. I spent a lot of time around traditional Catholic monasteries and religious houses, so the gems and pearls of the Western liturgy were just part of my daily existence. In the end, they led me to Orthodoxy, because they just seemed to shine even brighter in the Byzantine liturgies. The Orthodox Church seems to dwell in a perpetual Exultet, especially when understood with the full round of its liturgical hymns and prayers.

If you decide to get involved with Saint Herman's of Alaska, the humble opinion of this Heretic is that you are making an excellent choice.

I still like Cranmer's schedule for reading the Psalms in one month, but Orthodox Christian Divine Liturgy, East or West, is like being in a perpetual Advent Season. That magic of the Christmas season (no, not Christmas Shopping). I never attended an Old Catholic Church service, so I don't know what that is like. However, even if half the congregation is not really that religious, those worship services are so full of energy! I remember attending the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts several times in the mid 1990s. The service gave me goosebumps!

This video brought to mind those times I attended Orthodox Church service. I think I spent two Lent and Pascha seasons attending the first time an OCA parish, and the second time a ROCOR parish. I always made a point to get to Divine Liturgy early because the cantor did such a beautiful job with the hour before the Liturgy.

To bad I am a child of the West and think too much, 🙂

I am Russian Orthodox, but raised Lutheran. I have used this book, but prefer the Monastic Diurnal as my main prayer book.

I could listen/watch your videos all day as your voice is so calming. I have never gotten an Orthodox prayer book because I find the terms confusing. I do have an Orthodox New Testament Bible that I need to open up and read. This prayer book looks very nice. Thank you for sharing.

Dale - what an immense blessing this video was to me! Glory to God for your experiences and you sharing them.
On that theme - that particular Orthodox prayer book is unique in that it contains the Akathist “Glory to God for all things.”
Search for it on YouTube and follow along in the book - it’s a deep and powerful prayer - written in a Soviet Gulag in 1940. I think their are bits in it that will grab your heart.

Comparing a prayer book to a pantry is the absolute best comparison I've heard to date. I've been praying for you, Dale. You seem so much happier and fulfilled.

Leaving Episcopal Church for Holy Orthodoxy! Episcopal Church certainly does not have apostolic succession though I will always treasure Anglican hymns and the Book of Common Prayer.

Ive been to the orthodox church Russian in san Francisco. St johns coffin is there. And i got to touch it, they moved it now to where you cant touch it. I really liked the episcopal church but they got rid of the bookstore and srudy materials and the sermons just off focus on certain ideas. But they have a huge gold mural of Christ that is mezerizing. Now im going visit a lutheran church for xmas as i have always respected the courage of luther back then. Whenever i see church doors i think of that thesis he nailed to the church door. The Assyrian catholic church of the east was the best yet when i went in collage but it moved from my town to the bay area. I put a Christmas gift link for you below this comment. Its orthodox singing thought you like it.

You seem to own many Orthodox prayer books and Byzantine style icons, why don’t you become Orthodox, my dear Brother? ☦️
