Even though I've been drawing for over 30 years, I still enjoy seeing other artists give great perspective on the field and help others....this video is a great example of helping others achieving their OWN potential and not copy others...its more rewarding to be original in your work...Thanks for the great insights and videos

I abandoned drawing as a hobby when I entered college. I wasn't accepted in College of Architecture, told myself that I wasn't good enough like the rest. I pursued a different program instead. Now, that I graduated I am trying to rediscover my lost passion for art. Thank you for your videos, you are the best art teacher that I never had!

Alphonso,

I have subscribed to your channel roughly 2 years ago. Your videos had always been very helpful, but this one here really pushed me to a new level. It completely changed the way of how I am trying to learn and improve. I have been follwing your advice for three weeks now, and I made more progress than in the whole last year. So it is now really more than about time for me to say: THANK YOU SOO MUCH!

Saying thanks is not enough, so I just purchased your book from amazon 10 minutes ago. Not sure whether it will help me the same way that your videos do but I really want to support your great work here on youtube. To me you are hosting the best channel about drawing by far, and you are doing this for free. Can't say enough thanks for that.

Please keep on with your great work!

(BTW: I think this is my first comment on youtube ever - so it really means something)

Greetings from Germany

Brilliant. SO helpful. I'm somewhere in the middle but see how I can apply this sequence to different subjects. A human is not a dog. A dog is not a horse. A horse is not a building, etc.Thanks.

If you were really a teacher at my college.... I'd be always there on time and learn much more than 4 years in art class....

Alphonso,
What I really love about your videos is that you make people *think*.
Your videos are not about "Hello guys, today I will teach you how to draw an eye" (and he/she draws just one eye for an hour), your videos are about drawing methodology and philosophy. Even if you record a video with something specific, you still make people think how to do that from the depth - you don't teach how to draw exactly what you drew in the video, but you teach how to think to know how to be able to draw it.
I just want to thank you for your videos and amaizing books!

Loved the video, you really broke it down and emphasized that patience and practice are really key. Great work 🔥

You are awesome, your lessons are so simple and straight forward for a beginner like me. I have seen some for the more advanced, yah, not there yet. You teach very well at all levels. Your voice is calming! TY

Outstanding! So very helpful, thank you! I've been focusing on "how-to" videos, but this type of video is extremely important, providing general guidance, overall philosophy, "pep-talk" -- whatever you want to call it. You communicate so very well. Thanks!

Good video.

One thing I like to do is going back to the "primary" fundamentals when I'm not so confident doing finished pieces.Like, for example, I'm drawing hands. Then I see if something is a wrong or a little off, and after that I start doing boxes and cylinders, along with seeing and drawing from references, learning something from other sources (like Kevin Chen Demos or Bridgman), doing my best to correct the errors and pushing it a little more (hands in unconventional angles and gestures, hands with different size, etc) to expand my vision/knowledge about it.After all that I start to draw hands from imagination again.

Most times I get better when I do this, don't know if it works for everyone though.

That's actually the way Simon Sinek says to conduct business, or life in general. Why, How, What. His book Start With Why is great and his lectures are really great. Really cool how you applied it to art (doesn't matter if you knew about it or not). This reaffirmation is really nice :]

I started watching Alphonso about 6 months ago. I had the basics down for portrait work in graphite, but I can now draw a nose so easily and actually use my pens for portrait work. Thank you so much!
