How to fix Audio-Technica M50 hinge

I have an Audio-Technica M50 headphones, I broke the hinge and tried to repair it in different ways but I discovered the magic of nylon cable tie.. its so cheap and works great.

Thanks dude. It's stupid that a tiny piece of plastic can be the difference between something that works and something that doesn't, but you've found a way to bypass that issue. You have saved at least 334 people, if not 7000 people, the cost of a brand new pair of m50xs.

I googled this problem and found people telling me I needed to drill a hole? I'm not trying to bust out the power tools, I want the fastest and laziest possible solution and THIS is it. It took me about 3 minutes of total time including watching this video to fix this problem with a zip tie I had lying around. Great video!

Thank you so much for this amazingly simple but SUPER EFFICIENT fix. I just did this to my son's ATH-M50X, which had BOTH sides broken. Sorted it out for him with a couple of zip ties and gave it back to him... the utter joy in his face was cause for celebration!

Bro, you are a life saver! I had come across this method before when trying to see if there were any "hax" that I could use to temp fix them until I can give my pair a full service... and I had tried this before, but I did not manage to do it 100% right - what I noticed from your vid, is that you criss-crossed and wrapped your your zip-tie around the hinge, which previously I had just used to two zip-ties without crisis crossing them. Incredible fix! Cheap, accessible and if you get a cable tie with the same color as the headphones it is impossible to see. Saved me buying new headphones! Thank you sharing this fix so that everyone can use it!

For those attempting at home: Make sure to get 2.5 mm or smaller cable ties!
Will definitely hold up until I get round to doing a full fix once I have the parts

This is a really elegant solution. When you start looking at the construction, the between the top of the headphone and hinge gets smaller as you open the headphones up. This puts just enough material in the gap to stop it opening too wide. But it also means you can still close the headphones up to fit in the drawstring bag. So all upside.

wooowwww wtf this worked, holy shit. just get a normal zip tie. you'll notice theres two different holes he inserts it into. I can't believe this solved it instantly, I was about to pay for a 20 dollar replacement headset on ali express based on another video.

Thank you, wrapping the tie twice around the hinge helps it stay in place much more securely, I tried wrapping it around only once before and it didn't work, but then I stumbled upon this video.

Thank you - had exactly the same problem but not skilled enough to perform a more technical fix, but one black cable tie and three seconds later! Perfect for me!

THANK YOU SO MUCH, crazy how well this works. For those wondering about the size, some people here said a 2.5 mm works best but the ones I found near my place were too short, so I used a 3.5 and while it was a little harder to push through the slits they worked perfectly.

I was super skeptical that this would work at all. Even before putting the headset on my head I was ready to be disappointed, BUT it worked. Thank you, it worked! For anyone else trying this make sure to get 2.5x150(or longer)mm zipties, anything thicker than 2.5 won't work and anything shorter than about 150 won't work either. Once again, thank you so much!

Man, thanks for the tip! I've worn mine for like 5 years. One side was broken a while ago, but somehow I kept on working on them 😂.
