I love that you are so free with your speech! My story is I was about 13/14 years old we were at a revival conference at a church in Georgia, they call all the youth up and have parents stand behind them, then a man came speaking in tongues and said “Fire” as he placed his hands on the youth, most of the children fell in the floor, and some were speaking in tongues, I on the other hand was like what is going on, so the man comes to me and says “Fire”(spitting as he says it) nothing happens, so then he puts his hands on my stomach and says burn Holy Spirit, nothing happens, then he puts his hands on my head again and I can feel the pressure of him trying to push me back, I hold my ground, so he says let this one marinate on the Spirit then moved on, A female comes up to me and takes me to a back room in the church and tries to teach me how to speak in tongues, “Repeat after me stuff” after about what seemed like eternity (30/45 mins) of me not doing as she says and questioning her, we come out of that room and I go back to my seat, thinking what a bunch of lunatics, this is not God, so started my journey for truth. I am thankful for the experience so I can tell my story, but the manipulation was crazy.

I had a "Prophetess" tell me publicly I was GOING to speak in tongues to receive my healing. When I asked in a more private whisper, in front of a congregation of 200 or more, "what if the Spirit doesn't lead me to speak in tongues?", her response was to lean in to my ear and say, "Just fake it, they'll never know!" I leaned into her microphone and shouted, "GET BEHIND ME SATAN!" She was never allowed back to our church.

I eventually want to be a psychologist. I plan on doing a research on the pressure to speak in tongues in Pentecostal churches that lead people to feeling guilty for not speaking in tongues.

If you speak in tongues and no one understands you, it is better that you keep your silence, for we preach the message of the Holy Spirit, but if no one can understand the message, we preach in vain.

Everybody is faking it; only a few are honest enough to admit it.

Man they shouldn't be so quick to lay hands on you like that. They all up in your business and then they didn't even have enough discernment to know if it was real or not. Yikes lol.

Every time I meet someone who frequently ‘Speaks in tongues’ during routine prayers, or whatever, they turn out to be a narcissist. Every. single. time. I believe that there is such a thing as speaking in tongues that can come from actually being overcome, but that is not what is happening to the majority of people. Period.

Lol, I did the same thing when I was around 11 or 12. I belonged to an apostolic church back then, and we weren't allowed to do anything until we were determined to be saved by speaking in tongues. We couldn't sing in the choir, play the tambourine, lead a song, nothing! I wanted to do all those things and more, but after constant weekly tarrying services and not being able to speak in tongues, I thought I wasn't good enough to be saved and that something was wrong with me. I later faked it, and was shocked how everyone was so happy for me and didn't even realize I was faking. It was at that point that I actually started doubting religion and christianity, but I never gave up on it. However, sometime not too long after that experience, something unexplainable did come over me, and even though it felt beautiful, it scared the heck out of me! It only happened a handful of times after that, and I'm now overgrown, lol. So, I know that speaking in tongues is real, but I don't believe that it happens all the time or as often as christians try to act like it does.

The fact that your dad bought you a pizza after faking tongues 🤣🤣🤣 he probably was disappointed by the experience at that church.

*The sad part is what you realized is faking and you are so correct, people actually do that and they think they are really speaking in tongues. As a kid I've done what you have done, (not in church tho) but I knew it wasn't the Holy Spirit. I eventually later on did receive the REAL Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit actually takes over your tongue and the Holy Spirit speaks/utters words out of your mouth using your mouth/tongue, it's never ever something you do yourself as you did.*

This was awesome! I grew up Catholic and in the Charismatic movement. I was never forced like that to speak in tongues, but those people who laid hands on you were blasfeeming the Spirit, for sure. They only cared about tongues, nothing else, and that's horrible.

Here is a story for you: Please note I'm visually impaired. I was going to a Pentecostal church for a while, and we were at a prayer meeting of sorts. This guy, who calls himself Apostle (name) was praying for everyone, and then of course he prayed over me for my vision to be restored. I had no issue with this because I believe in healing, and was prayed over all of my life. With this dude, I was half expecting him to pray over my eyes, which he did. However, he dug the palms/heals of his hands into my eyes, trying to push me backwards. Now, I was in a chair, so why he did that is beyond me. I was afraid he was going to pop my eyes out, and I have glaucoma as it is.

Not only was he digging his almighty strength into my eyes, but he was also screaming at them to "Open in Jesus' Big huge "no-no" in my book. Now, I have no problem with people laying hands on my eyes, but for the love of God, is being gentle so difficult? Jesus certainly didn't do what this wacco did. Not only that, but screaming? Come on, dude, no amount of screaming, pushing, or exhorting will heal me. Ugh, I wanted to do the very thing to him to teach him a lesson. So there's my Pentecostal story. Oh, and someone else prayed that the demon of blindness would leave...🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😲😲

I really like your Dad. One time I felt a guest speaker push me- but no. I wasn't going to be pushed by a person. If I was going to fall it
was going to be because of the Holy Spirit, not brute force.

My wife and I once went forward for prayer at a Pentecostal church. The female pastor told my wife to "start saying hallelujah over and over, and just let the syllables start dropping in". That was how she defined a "prayer language". We were like, "nah, God understands English."

We took our students (who were raised Pentecostal) to a Youth Convention. One of our students bought 2 of her "never been to church" friends. so the "Holy Spirit" service when students started falling out in the Holy Spirit, the 2 girls who didnt know WHAT WAS GOING ON, went into full Paramedic mode & started trying to help & pick up all the students that were falling and screaming "HELP!" Those poor girls didnt speak for the rest of the night no matter how hard we tried to explain to them what just happened.
