What does the horrible creature Rukh Egg have in common with the greatest Magic card of all time, Black Lotus? They were both on the first every ban list, and here's why!

I can see WOTC printing a card like Rukh egg with it's original rules interpretation. A free 4/4 flyer when discarded or milled isn't that far off with what we see in Legacy with Hallowed Ones and Vengevines. That being said, the token itself may need to be legendary to keep it in line.

Turn one: swamp go
End of my opponents turn: cast one with nothing, discard 4 rukh eggs

Discarding them with looting effects would honestly be super strong today if the card worked like it used to.

Yugioh had a few cards with a similar errata situation, Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest were infamous powerhouse cards in the early years, dogshit bodies but they said "When this card is sent to the GY, search your deck for any monster with low [STAT]" ATK for Sangan, DEF for Witch, and while the usual means of them dying was sacrificing them, you could also just discard them
They later got errata'd for "From the field", and also banned at a point, and later even harsher errata to make them not one-card full combo cards

Turn 1 Bazaar of Baghdad, draw 2 cards, pitch 3 eggs. GG

You forgot the best (worst?) part!

At the time, there was no limit on the number of any given card in your deck! So you could just run 60 of the eggs, discarding them every turn, and essentially having 60 free 4/4s in your deck

I love old Magic cards as they really played off of fantasy and the unknown power creep more than we expected

Hi Seth, how about a history video about "deckmaster" appearing on the back of every magic card? I think not that many people are even aware of wizards' plan there.

Big ups for the Pork Roll Egg and Cheese in the background

This is the exact same wording shenanigans Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest abused in the yugioh OCG...
Apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I guess.

The same set has Bazaar of Baghdad. That's up to three 4/4s turn one.

I remember play as written, made things like Holy Armor from revised much better than the ones from other sets. Because it didn't say "until end of turn" you could spend a white to permanently give the creature +0/+1

That’s probably where madness came from 😂

The funniest thing is that even if Rukh Egg had this original text it wouldn't be that busted.

I got one of these at a charity event a few years back, thinking it was a pretty goofy card. It's spiked a little bit, I'm guessing because of old school formats.

Man, imagine living in a time when reading the cards always explained the card, instead of having to look it up 🤣

Oh Ruhk egg... so many good memories of killing people by turn 3

A faithless looting and it's a 4/4 flying on first turn.

My dad played magic back then, if no one would attack out of fear or not being able to handle a 4/4 flyer (which was on par with some of the single strongest creatures at the time, see Serra Angel, Sengir Vampire, Scaled Wurm, and maybe Leviathan/Kraken if you want ones with huge drawbacks) so he would wait until the opponent ended their turn and just lightning bolt his own egg.

This is exactly why witch of the black forest was banned in yugioh. Discarding from hand to activate the effect was too op.
