So loosely, there could be themes of Kaido trying to live up to Joyboy by being the strongest, and Big mom trying to live up to Joyboy by creating a "peaceful" world

Absolutely brilliant! This makes me think every pirate is actually looking for/inspired by Joyboy in some roundabout way but each have their own twisted perception of what Joyboy is. This makes even more sense with the reveal that Joyboy was the first pirate meaning every pirate after him is technically emulating him but most misinterpret his "way of piracy". Oda is a master at bringing everything back to the same theme or message.

All the Yonko had parts of Joy Boys dream/life. Kaido wanted to be the strongest, Big Mom wanted a place for all races to laugh, sing and eat together, and Whitebeard made his crewmates his literal family (same as Joy Boy passing on the D. Initial to his crew/friends)

Big Mom somehow, be it experiments or some happenstance got exposed to Ancient technology, drug which makes person bigger and stronger in exchange for heightened metabolism or something like that. Experiments on children in Punk Hazard were an attempt to recreate those original drugs, basically everything they did there was attempting to recover lost technology, but those imperfect inventions had much higher side effects. At least this is what makes the most sense to me.

Big mom is my favorite character. There is so much untold, so much behind how epic she really is. She, if not for Luffy would have become the Queen of the Pirates. She also didn't necessarily lose, she was dropped from the sky.

Mother Carmel doing miracles frames her to be a saint to them. Meanwhile, Kuma has actually done things and performed miracles that deserve sainthood. Then you've got the people sitting on top of the red line calling themselves saints. There's going to be more examples of this as time goes on.

17:16- What I do think is that Xebec was able to get her to shape up literally/metaphorically and be somewhat more rational- the difference between herself while on the cruel and her current self- which is essentially a crone version of her childhood is far too immense and implies to me at least, he was a positive influence in getting her to her potential good future before Roger well-intentioned, but unintentionally led her back to her bad timeline by ridding her of that positive-ish influence.
