PS5 Pro Spec Update

According to the pixel-counting wizards over at Digital Foundry (via the team’s weekly post advertising their DF Weekly pod on Eurogamer), the long-rumored PS5 Pro will get a 227% teraflop increase over the OG PS5. That’s a ludicrous bump in power if true, with this incredible number coming via Sony’s developer portal. For context, this fresh speculation says the upgraded console will sport 33.5 Tflops compared to the 10.23 teraflops of both the 2020 launch model and last year’s PS5 Slim.

There is a fairly major caveat according to longtime industry veteran Richard Leadbetter, though. “The same Sony documents suggest only an extra 45 percent of actual throughout,” reports DF’s Leadbitter. “Part of the explanation comes from the RDNA 3 architecture with its dual-issue FP32 support, which doubles the amount of instructions processed, but which does not typically double game performance.”

The big takeaway? That headline reported figure in regards to increased compute power looks jaw-dropping, no doubt, but it doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll start to see PS5 Pro games running in native 4K (3,840 x 2,160) at 120 frames per second or more.

PS4 Dominates - Outselling PS5

March 2024 is the 41st month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 153,313 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 2.19 million units. The PS4 is currently ahead of the PS5 by 0.85 million units.

The PS5 has sold 56.89 million units in 41 months, while the PS4 sold 57.74 million units. Month 41 for the PS5 is March 2024 and for the PS4 is March 2017.

The PS4 crossed 60 million in month 44, 70 million in month 50, and 80 million in month 56. The PS4 has sold 117.17 million units to date. The PS5 is 60.28 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales.

Your ability to talk extensively about almost nothing is commendable

I love how the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games. The PS4 would have been great if it played PS1-PS3 games.

I think less people are buying the PS5 right now because of the cost of living, as well as the lack of quality current gen games releasing at the moment

The reason why PS5 is not selling well is because PS4 players are waiting for the PS5 Pro release. Why buy the same car where one has 300hp and the other will have 500hp releasing that year. I personally know at least 15 players on PS4 waiting for the Pro release. What really hurt Sony was the hard to get during release 3 1/2 years ago.

I love my ps5, and it is my main system. I’m hoping that the games don’t require a pro to play them. The ps4 games played on my Slim just fine, never needed a pro

I can't afford a PS5 and might never will, way too expensive. It cost here in New Zealand, wait for it, $899 NZ. What a fking rip off. I'm not paying that. That $899 would feed 50 kids.

I'm staying with my PS4. By the way, when I got my PS4 i think it cost $500 NZ, something? I don't remember.

PS5 got nice plates though.

All I want is backward compatible games with PS5 pro imagine PS1 to PS3 games on Pro it would be the best console ever and would reduce emulators and make Sony a tun of money and more buyers even if the emulation is okay at best

The PS/3 has sold more consoles to date than any console on planet earth, do the research where the Government bought ALOT of systems for their servers and they are still running to date.

My problem with the PS5 is the price. Console $500.00 (If you're lucky). Then 2nd controller, and HD upgrade, so there is room for your games. By the time you're done, you can buy a 3000 series PC, and no subscription fees.

The Helldivers drama was about fact that 177 territories doesn't have access to PSN but they were still able to buy the game on Steam and now they would loose access to it. Please do your research.

I use my ps5 to install ps4 games, it's about storage management until ps5 ssd get improve by a large margin of storage capacity.

It wasn’t just the people that didn’t want to log into the PSN, there were also people in countries that did not have access to a PSN. Or a PlayStation account. Those people bought the game and we’re not gonna be able to play it because their country wouldn’t allow them to have access to the PlayStation account.

The console is fine but I really don't see the need for a ps5 pro when games are still releasing on the ps4, also the ps6 in 4 years seems way too soon imo

I'm completely happy with my PS5 on my 4k Sony A80K OLED, for being a casual gamer it's fine for me and all that You buy a console you get damn pretty good results without spending thousands on a PC you constantly have to upgrade.
