Remember when the Tacoma was an affordable compact work truck…Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I guess the V6 was lasting too long so let’s put a 4 cylinder with a turbo to ensure a shorter lifespan and follow everyone else’s lead

I hope they don’t only pair the hybrid with the extremely expensive trims, but offer it alongside any trim. Personally I love my 21 Tacoma TRD OR and plan to keep it as long as possible.

Glad I ordered the 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road long bed with the tried and true time tested naturally aspirated V6 .

Pretty much expected, since that's where the segment is headed. Hopefully reliability doesn't suffer. Would be super cool if they beefed up the battery a tiny bit more to make it plug-in capable. Say about 20-30mi of pure electric would be great for commuting and then gas engine to help with towing etc.

I ordered a 2023 with a manual transmission it’s been about 4 months waiting, I’ll wait for the next gen to get all the kinks worked out. Usually takes a few years

The only thing I’m scared of is those new prices, I’ve been waiting to see what the next gen Tacoma brings to consider getting a new Tacoma

Glad you guys are excited. Reading these rumors a few months ago helped me make up my mind to pull the trigger on a '23 long-bed 2.7L 4x4. She might be a dog on power, but I'm glad I got the last old-school tried and true iron-block workhorse, that I hope to get 300K miles out of. I hope the 4th gen surprises me on the longevity, but this doesn't inspire confidence IMHO.

I think that any truck manufacturer that isn’t offering a large inverter on a hybrid is missing the boat. It’s very useful for people in the trades and people who own trailers as a lot of the smaller trailers either don’t offer a built in generator or it’s an option.
My guess is Andrey’s next vehicle is going to be a Maverick.

It’s about time! I have been banging the drum that Toyota need at to produce a hybrid Tacoma for years. So many in the service industries love and use Tacomas, and the power and efficiency that a hybrid gives on the city and residential streets just makes sense!

I'll keep my '21 army green tacoma 4wd double cab trd off road with a v6 and 6 speed manual transmission. Love this truck! Looks awesome and so much fun to drive. Drive it till the wheels fall off.

My Tacoma is 18 years old. It's a Manuel transmission, and super easy to maintain. I'll be surprised if these electric trucks last longer than 10 years.

My old man’s early 2000 Tacoma cost 10k—2wd access cab. The ford ranger was about the same price. Trucks used to be affordable. My 2022 Tacoma 4wd is 45k total out the door. The cheapest 2wd config is still 26-27k. Still quite a lot.

...and when it actually hits the market, expect a 1.1L quad-turbo 4, and a 4th-gen CVT (with SuperSound fake "shifting" noises!).

What are the chances Toyota rolls out some sort of onboard generator capability to match the Pro Power system on the Ford Hybrid instead of the 400W setup other manufacturers have now? I love my Powerboost and have used the pro power multiple times. I would really like to see that kind of capability becoming more mainstream across other manufacturers as well.

First of all I can’t wait to see what this looks like and what the EPA ratings are…
With that said, automakers have completely skipped over hybrids and I’m so glad to see Toyota holding there line in the sand and continuing their expertise in hybrid technology! We need automakers to take a step back and work on hybrids while working on electric vehicles and the infrastructure needed to get there… because we’re nowhere close!
Another great video guys!!

You think this one will know what gear to be in when using cruise control?

Given the reliability issues with the Tundra, I think ill wait a year or two to see what is wrong with this new gen

Back in 1986 I bought a new Toyota 4x4 pickup truck, 1st year with the independent front suspension, with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine, 22rte motor. So nothing new from Toyota.
