Want to grow your data career and skills in 2025? Then you need to think beyond Power BI. In this video, let me share my approach for growing your data skills using "value chain analysis".

The key skills you want to gain are:
📚 Data engineering & SQL
📚 Coding (for data - like Python)
📚 User interaction skills
📚 Business domain skills
📚 Other BI / Analysis tools - Tableau, Excel, Python
📚 Forecasting, data insights
📚 AI, Machine learning, GPTs

Videos you should check out:

I wish you all the best in 2025.

I love how you use hand-drawn visuals - they add a human touch and make complex ideas much easier to understand. Its a refreshing change from overly digitized content!
Crystal clear and concise 👍

The idea of doing a value chain analysis on our data skillset is very stimulating. You've crystallized a way of thinking that I had been doing only subconsciously. You've provided a more conscious and systematic approach to career growth analysis.
To your upstream skills, I'd add Business Analysis as a superset for the User Interaction skill you mentioned, since there's way more value you can add if you bring those skills to the table, though that's a whole profession in itself. Same with Project Management. And just as you called Data Modeling out separately even though it's technically part of Power BI, I'd separate out Power Query and M Coding since that's such a powerful skill to develop.

Chandoo, thanks for putting things at one place. I see we missed one at downstream like, licencing, gateways, load management etc.,

Hi sir, thanks a lot for the valuable info. One request from my side could you please make a video on handling realtime bi problems and also challenges that you face with handling a huge amount of data and how you will resolve those?

Many thanks in advance.

Not to forget Power Automate, that can be used to orchestrate refresher of dataflows that interdependent,
and automate workflow based on BI’s events.

Hi Chandoo, thanks so much for taking the time to create this video! Based on your diagram, where would a beginner start? Which of these should I learn first, and what’s the recommended order to progress through the information, thanks

it would be very very helpful if you could help simplify what each of the upstream items (data sources, pipelines, especially cloud) are and some examples of where they add value as well!

Hi Chandoo bro,

I'm a big fan of your teaching skills! I'm a Power BI developer with 6 years of experience.

Skills: Power BI, SQL, Power Apps, and some knowledge of Tableau.

I’d love your suggestion on whether I should dive into coding stuff like Python, AWS, Data Science, etc., or if I should continue focusing on the entire Power Platform (BI, Apps, Automate, Web Pages, etc.).

Much love from Hyderabad, anna! ❤

In 2025 with AI, it's a better approach to specialize in an area and focus on being able to provide unique value for users rather than focusing on the technique.
It would be really absurd to focus on mastering to code in python and SQL while so many AI coding solutions are available.
Rather than focusing on the tools, focus on providing value.

This is wonderful, I find your tutorials very insightful and clear. I am a banker, just have started using Power BI for my analysis work, however i am a little confused if Calculate only compares Scalar values, how would be able to do Month on Month comparison as this would be a dynamic data comparison.
